At the Butler Law Office, I strive to provide quality legal services, with an emphasis on business, real estate, contract preparation and analysis. I have experience with large scale projects, commercial development, and individual residential projects and various issues that may arise relating to the leasing and/or ownersip of real property in this county. While the focus of my practice is real estate, I also have expertise in a variety of different areas. While attending law schooI I worked as a courtroom clerk in Santa Cruz County Superior Court for four years, mainly with civil matters, including daily calendars and trials. After graduating from law school I was employed as Assistant Corporate Counsel at Plantronics, Inc. for two years, and Assistant City Attorney for the City of Santa Cruz for two years. I opened my law office in 1993, and have been at the same location since that date.
At this point in my career I do little litigation, prefering to use my talents in directly solving the problems that bring someone to the office. I became a certified mediator in 1996, which combined with my Master's degree in Human Development, has led me away from litigation as a first choice course of action. If the case is a matter that demands significant litigation, I will refer the matter to two or three attorneys with experience and good judgment required for the job.
As a long time local resident and business owner, I have developed resources throughout the professional community. This allows me to communicate directly with the appropriate individuals and/or business to achieve, in most cases, an acceptable and hopefully speedy resolution.
As an adjunct to my professional life, I have served on a number of boards over the years, including terms as President of such groups as Save Our Shores and Group Home Society. I served as President of Santa Cruz Women Lawyers 1993-94. I have enjoyed working, on a volunteer basis, as a pro tem small claims judge for several years. I have also served on the Santa Cruz County Assessment Appeals Board for over ten years, the last six years as Chairperson.
